Radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies have long been firmly established in our daily lives, they are actively used in everyday life, in transport, in trade, in industry, due to their reliability and versatility. Today we would like to talk about the use of RFID in transport logistics - what important tasks they can solve for very little money.
In enterprises where employees are paid according to actual hours worked, it is important to have reliable tools for its accounting. If the driver is strictly tied to one car, then of course you can take into account related data of the car according to the indications of the monitoring system. But this method does not exclude gross errors in accounting and opportunities for abuse, and is even more inapplicable when there is a constant rotation of vehicle and drivers or they operate different equipment: today the driver drives a grader, and tomorrow an excavator - in such cases, in order to calculate labor remuneration, it is necessary to have complete data on how long and on what equipment the employee actually worked. RFID technology has been successfully used to collect this information. It works very simply: the driver inserts a work card with an RFID tag into the card reader (for example, such: ADM20 RFID reader), LogistInWeb™ records the start and end time of a particular driver on a particular vehicle. Information about the hours actually worked is reflected in a special report, that can be uploaded or integrated via API to the accounting system (ERP) of the enterprise for calculation of payroll and further evaluation (i.e. KPI).
Safety of vehicles and tangible assets.
Today, cars for commercial use can be safely attributed to the company's expensive assets, and the cost of special equipment has generally “flew into space”. At the same time, the operation of modern machines and mechanisms requires certain qualifications from drivers and operators. It is not uncommon for illiterate management to lead to serious breakdowns, the cost of eliminating which is comparable to the price of new equipment. Therefore, it is important to ensure that only trained and qualified personnel have access to driving and handling vehicles and special equipment. RFID identification technologies solve this problem - when integrated with an engine blocking relay, which makes it possible to ensure that vehicles are operated only by authorized employees. Such a solution can be used in conjunction with already installed anti-theft systems, enhancing the protection of equipment from theft.
RFID technologies provide identification not only of people, but also of the vehicles themselves when driving into closed areas, remotely identifying them to control automatic turnpikes and gates. At the same time, all facts of entry / exit are recorded by the information system.
Applying RFID tags to containers and packaging ensures the safety and locatiuon control of cargo during transportation and storage. Any unauthorized movement of it will be noticed by an automated system, alarm messages will be sent to all responsible employees about the need to take urgent measures!
Monitoring the operation of trailers and trailer equipment.
It is impossible to install GPS trackers on trailers and special equipment (i.e. mowers, cultivators, snow blowers, seeders, sprayers, aerators, etc.), but the task of controlling their location and use does not cease to be relevant. RFID technologies make it possible to determine to which vehicle the towing equipment is connected, to record the time and place of coupling and uncoupling, and the duration of use. For such a wireless solution to work, a special RFID tag (for example, ADM 21 with a range of up to 100 meters) must be installed on the trailer, and an RFID reader must be installed in the vehicle cab. The monitoring system will automatically record the binding of equipment to the vehicle and inform the dispatcher in real-time about the location of trailers or trailed implements, the facts and time of their use.
Waste bin control.
Similar to the methods described above, RFID tags allow you to control the work of utilities: when collecting waste, the system reacts to the fact that garbage cans tip over into the bin of a garbage truck. Thanks to this, the execution of work tasks for garbage collection is clearly controlled - in terms of time and route of movement, and of course, not a single garbage container will be missed.
Equipping harvesting equipment with RFID identification equipment can significantly reduce the theft of agricultural products. For example, a harvester equipped with an RFID reader will only unload the harvested crop into machines with special tags after the “friend or foe” identification procedure has been carried out. Otherwise, when the auger is opened, an alarm message will be sent to the responsible persons, or the operation of the auger will be blocked and it will not be possible to unload the grain into the body of the "left" car.
